The first day of round 14 has been a day of rare feats as, among other things, a double century was scored in Orange and a 10-wicket match haul was taken in Bathurst.
In their match at Bathurst Sportsground, Bathurst City recovered from 9/91 to post 190 against Orange CYMS. CYMS seemed to have control of the match early, with their opponents 5/36 at one stage, and then 9/91, but it was the 99 run last wicket partnership between Jed Cruickshank (104no) and Jaidyn Hutchings (22) that got Redbacks out of trouble. Cruickshank’s runs came from 83 deliveries with 10 of those dispatched over the fence.
Clint Moxon picked up 3-35 against his former club, while Aditya Adey (2-17), Johnty French (2-21) and Joey Coughlan (2-58) all picked up doubles. With 28 overs to bat, CYMS finished 3/63 at stumps.
Across the road at Morse Park 1, Centrals season has finished a day early following their outright loss by an innings and 15 runs. Batting first, Centrals were bowled out for 50 in their first innings, with only George Currie (20) making double figures. Connor Slattery bagged 5 for 2 from his 6.2 overs and Lachlan Martin picked up 2-15. St Pats Old Boys then declared their first innings closed at 1/110 on the back of a brutal 80 off 41 balls from Cooper Brien that included 7 sixes. Bailey Brien finished unbeaten on 24.
Batting for a second time, Centrals' day went from bad to worse as they slumped to 6/4, Connor Slattery picking up the first five wickets to fall. Centrals recovered ever so slightly as Neil Brydon (26) and Rowan Dray (13no) added 39 for the 7th wicket, but Bailey Brien (3/0) then cleaned up the tail as Centrals were all out for 45. Slattery finished with match figures of 10-28, only the 11th time a 10 wicket match haul has been recorded in the BOIDC competition. The win guarantees St Pats Old Boys a top 2 finish.
At Riawena Oval, Cavaliers were ruthless as they piled on 6/441 against City Colts, the 6th highest score in a BODC 2 day match. After losing an early wicket, Cavaliers looked to consolidate as Rory Kalnins and Matt Corben put together a 54 run partnership before Corben was dismissed by Luke Muir for 23. Cameron Laird then combined with Kalnins to add a further 57 runs to the total before Riley Larnach removed Laird for 26.
Bailey Ferguson then joined Kalnins, and in just under 22 overs the pair piled on 180 runs before Ferguson fell to Luke Muir for 108 from only 67 deliveries. Tom Blowes (40) and Kalnins added another 93 to take the score to 393 before Blowes became Muir’s third victim for the day. At stumps, opener Rory Kalnins had finished 203 not out, scoring the seventh BOIDC double century. Luke Muir was the best of the City Colts bowlers, finishing with 3-68, while Riley Larnach picked up 2-46.
Rugby Union batted first in their match against Orange City at Wade Park and openers Hugh Taylor and Sam MacPherson made the most of that opportunity, adding 76 for the first wicket before Taylor was bowled by Jarryd Seib for 33. A further 22 runs had been added to the score where MacPherson was the next wicket to fall for 52 from only 40 balls.
Ryan Peacock and Tanvir Singh then joined forces and worked their way through some probing bowling from Jarryd Seib and Shaun Grenfell. The pair added 75 for the third wicket before Grenfell had Peacock caught behind for 44. With no addition to the score, Hayden Griffith removed Singh the very next over and Rugby Union were 4/173. That brought Brad Glasson and Kobe Muir together with the pair taking their team to 219 before Muir lost his wicket to Grenfell. Trent Fitzpatrick followed 24 runs later to be Grenfell’s third victim for the day, with Jarrod Edwards then his 4th with Rugby Union at 7/253.
Brad Glasson continued to add runs with the tail before he was the second last wicket to fall, run out for 69 before Brett Causer finished the Rugby innings a short while later at 303. Grenfell picked up 4-53 from his marathon 22 over spell, while Hayden Griffith (2-67) and Brett Causer (2-69) were the other multiple wicket takers. In their 3 overs to stumps, Orange City finished 0/11.
