Cavaliers remain the only undefeated side after the third round of BOIDC played on Saturday while Orange CYMS registered their first win of the season.

Orange CYMS and Orange City were not only playing for BOIDC points in the match at Sir Jack Brabham Park but were also playing for the Covelli-Findlay Cup.

CYMS won the toss and elected to bat first. After openers George Fisher and Tom Belmonte put 61 runs on the board before the first wicket fell, Ed Morrish looked to have changed the course of the match taking 4 of the first 5 wickets to leave CYMS in trouble at 5-77. When Shaun Grenfell picked up his second wicket a short while later, City were in charge with CYMS 6-108 in the 18th over.

Lachie Wykes and Aditya Adey then combined for a 7th wicket partnership of 92 runs before Wykes was dismissed in the 29th over for 93 off 47 deliveries, clearing the boundary 6 times along the way. Harry Dyer then joined Adey at the crease and the pair pushed the score to 7-317 with an unbroken 8th wicket partnership of 117. Adey finished 71 not out and Dyer unbeaten on 67. Ed Morrish was the pick of the City bowlers taking 4/49 while Shaun Grenfell picked up 2/34.

Facing a required run rate of almost 8 an over form the start, Orange City struggled to get their innings going, regularly losing wickets until they were eventually bundled out for 102. Fletcher Byrne made 51 to top score for his side with Kaeden Posthumus (4/12) and Harry Dyer (2/15) picking up the bulk of the wickets.

Before this weekend the record BOIDC team total for a one day match was 308, set by City Colts in the 2021-22 season. CYMS surpassed this mark with their total but will amazingly sit second on the list after St Pats Old Boys smashed the previous record in their match against City Colts at Loco Oval.

St Pats batted first in their match and also made a good start to their innings with openers Bailey Brien and Andrew Brown scoring 55 from the first 10 overs and then taking the score to 64 before Craig Hanrahan dismissed Brown for 24. Cooper Brien joined Bailey Brien at the crease and the pushed the total to 85 before Hanrahan trapped Bailey in front for 34. That brought Lachlan Barnsley to the crease who with Cooper Brien proceeded to add another 99 to their team’s total before Braeden O’Donnell had Brien caught for 62 in the 26th over.

The run feast continued with Barnsley and Connor Slattery adding another 106 runs for the 4th wicket, with Slattery’s dismissal for 46 bringing an end to the partnership. With 5 ½ overs still remaining St Pats piled on another 66 runs to finish their 40 overs at 7-356. Barnsley was the 5th wicket to fall, scoring his first century in St Pats Old Boys colours. For City Colts, Craig Hanrahan, Dan Casey and Will Cross each picked up 2 wickets.

Facing a daunting run chase, the City Colts bats failed to fire, as their innings finished at 107. Lachlan Martin picked up 4/30 for Saints and Hugh Parsons also bagged a double.

Bathurst City won the toss and elected to bat first in their match against Rugby Union at the Sportsground. Rugby Union would have been pleased with their start with the ball, with 2 bats back in the sheds with only 21 runs on the board. Opener Blake Kreuzberger and Mark Day pushed the score along to 65 before Kreuzberger was caught on the boundary for 38. Ruben Newton then had Mark Day caught behind in his first over as Redbacks went into the drinks break at 4-94. Seth Norris removed Jed Cruickshank in next over as Rugby looked to have gained the upper hand. Cohen Schubert and Liam Cain added some valuable runs before Bathurst City were bowled out for 159 at the end of the 39th over. Ruben Newton picked 4/15 from 8 overs to be the best of the Rugby Union bowlers, with Sam MacPherson also taking 2/15 to help restrict the runs in the back end of Redback’s innings.

In their reply, Rugby Union made a good start as Hugh Taylor and Sam MacPherson (36) added 66 for the first wicket. From there Rugby Union always looked comfortable in their chase as Taylor batting through the innings to hit the winnings runs in the 30th over to bring up his century in the process.

At Wade Park, Cavaliers recovered from 3-51 to post 8-269 in their match against Centrals. Cameron Laird top scored for the men in maroon and grey with 64, while Toby Middleton, Ethan Urquhart Wes Lummis and Kyle Buckley also chipped in. Roshan Eiseman took 2/25 for Centrals, removing both Cavaliers opener, with Aijdan Mannering and Kyle Nonnenmacher also bagging two each. Cavaliers had Centrals on the back foot early at 3/28 before Neil Brydon and Jarrod Simpson added 72 before the 4th wicket fell at 100. Unfortunately for Centrals it was all downhill from there as they lost their remaining 6 wickets to be all out for 138. Cameron Laird backed up his efforts with the bat, taking 5/14 while Bailey Ferguson took 3/28 from his 6 overs.
