At a recent meeting of club delegates there was a strong desire to play a full home and away competition, so all teams play each other in both the one-day and two-day format. To achieve that for the 2026-27 season and working on the assumption of a 7 or 8 team competition, a couple of extra dates needed to be found.

It was decided that one of the two-day rounds would be played across one weekend (i.e. Saturday/Sunday). It was also confirmed that play would start at 11am on the Sunday in all matches.

In a BOIDC first, with Easter falling on the last weekend of March in 2027, it was decided that the Grand Final will be played on the Friday and Saturday of that weekend. Play will commence at 11am on both days, with a minimum 96 overs available on each. The ability to start play on the second day up to an hour earlier to make up time lost on the first day has also be removed for this match.

While we are still quite a way off from knowing how many teams will participate next season, it is important that players are aware of these changes well in advance of the season.

Next season will provide a unique opportunity to have the BOIDC Grand Final on a standalone weekend to lower grades, with BDCA and ODCA expected to hold their grand finals prior to Easter.

Another change made for next season relates to regular season two day matches where no play was possible on the first day. Those matches will now be played as 40 over per side one day matches, but with a red ball and with a modified points structure. A team that wins on first innings with receive 8 points if they bowl their opposition out, or 6 points if they don’t. The losing team will receive 0 points and 2 points respectively.

The BOIDC is planning on holding its AGM in mid to late July, at which time it is expected clubs will provide an indication of their intention to participate in season 2026-27.
